Update, Sept 25: Early preorder data reportedly shows demand heavily skewed toward PS5. Xbox has pushed back, saying GTA VI is breaking Xbox preorder records too — both can be true, since Xbox's smaller install base means it can set its own records while still trailing PS5 in raw numbers. Worth knowing if matchmaking pool size matters to you, but it doesn't change the gameplay experience on either platform.

Storage
GTA VI is a large install. Both platforms let you expand storage, but the process and cost differ — PS5 uses M.2 NVMe SSD expansion, Xbox Series X uses a proprietary expansion card that costs more per gigabyte. If storage is a concern, factor that into the price comparison, not just the console itself.
Console pricing tiers
Both platforms offer a disc-drive and digital-only version at different price points. Since GTA VI's physical edition ships with a download code rather than a disc, the disc drive itself buys you less than it used to — worth weighing if you're deciding between tiers purely on price.
Subscription ecosystem
Xbox Game Pass includes a rotating library and, depending on tier, day-one access to some first-party titles — GTA VI won't be part of that, since it's a third-party release, but it's a factor if you're weighing overall value. PlayStation Plus has its own tiers with a different mix of benefits.
